HOW ARE THE DIFFERENT RECOS® COLLECTIONS MANUFACTURED?

BIO RECOS® features a textile backing made from recycled fibers, coated with renewable biopolymers made from wheat and corn, among other plant components. The raw materials are obtained through safe practices for farmers and the environment, in accordance with the standards of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Biodiversity Conservation of the United Nations.

What exactly is a biopolymer?

Biopolymers are raw materials substitutes obtained from renewable and natural sources. Most commonly, they come from agricultural waste. Using biopolymers reduces the industry’s dependence on fossil materials as well as its greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, biopolymers maintain the properties of synthetic or natural leather, such as strength, malleability and durability.

OUR TEXTILE BACKINGS

RECOS® backings are versatile and can be adapted to a wide array of applications and projects. Our yarns made with recycled cotton or polyester fibers.

WET PROCESS / COAGULATION

A biopolymer resin (where petroleum byproducts are replaced by plant-based substances) is applied to the textile backing to obtain a product with the same performance features as natural leather.

COATING / FINISH

Following the coagulation process, the material can be given the desired grain and finish.

Combinations depend on each project, as the RECOS® collection can be adapted to the needs of the customer and the market.

The name of this new eco-friendly leather represents the origins and evolution of a new creative facet for SIMIL CUERO PLYMOUTH, a company in which Recycling, Ecology and Sustainability have always been contemplated in all work processes.
